WSOP November Nine gets rolling

It’s official: the WSOP Main Event’s 2010 Final Table is underway, and already many of the hopefuls have bowed out. It was high noon when Bruce Buffer set events into motion with the most famous call in poker. No fewer than 2,000 fans were present to cheer on their favorites.
Those expecting first blood to be drawn soon were not disappointed. It only took 28 hands for the first elimination to come by. Soi Nguyen was the first one to have his Main Event Championship dreams dashed, when he lost a Q,Q vs A,Q coin-flip.
The second victim’s poker tournament life was also decided by a coin-flip: Michael Mizrachi, one of the most interesting players at the table put his tourney life onto the line holding A,Q. The flop of A,8,Q looked great for him, but the 9 on the turn put Matthew Jarvis’ pocket 9s into the lead. Mizrachi proceeded to land another A on the river though to see Jarvis off in 8th.

7-handed action lasted all the way to the dinner break, and during the apparent stalemate, Mizrachi managed to build up a nice chip lead. After the dinner break, it was Joseph Cheong’s turn to bounce someone. That someone was Jason Senti, whose A,K fell to Cheong’s pocket 10s.

John Dolan was the next victim, leaving the action in 6th place after his Q,5 fell to Jonathan Duhamel’s pocket 4s.
Michael Mizrachi disappointed his fans after an initial good run. He fell in 5th place when John Racener and Jonathan Duhamel teamed up on him to take his chip lead away, and then to eliminate him.
Only three hands later, Mizrachi was followed to the rail by Filippo Candio, whose Kd, Qd proved to be no match for Joseph Cheong’s A,3. Cheong was first crippled in a three-way hand, after which he was ushered out of the tournament. Duhamel and Racener will be the only two players back in action on Monday.
