WSOPC Indiana Day 1 report

There are more ways than one to play in a WSOP event these days. The 84 players taking part in the WSOP’s Southern Indiana Circuit Event will probably agree, after all, when you put up a buy-in of $5,150 you do expect to play in a WSOP-caliber event.
The starting field included some well-know players like the reigning champion, Carlos Uz, Matt Sterling and Bernard Lee.

Uz became one of the early “name” victims of the day as he fell just before the dinner break. He made a bad call against an opponent’s pocket rockets and suffered a huge blow to his stack. From there on it was all downhill for the champ who soon found himself with no other alternative but to shove all in on a K,10, without seeing the flop. He got one caller, and unfortunately for him, this guy held a pocket hand almost as good as the one that got him into this desperate situation in the first place. His K,10 unable to keep up with his opponent’s K,K, Carlos Uz headed to the rail much earlier that he would’ve liked to Bryan Sapp on the other hand did much better despite the adversity. Early on in the day he took a big hit to his stack, but bounced back nicely to finish high up on the provisional leader board. His break came when he tangled with Matt Sterling and managed to bust him out when his pocket 4s managed to hold their own against Sterling’s Kc, Qc.

The story of the day was a different one though. David Kopacz and his Wife Stacey stormed the tournament in a rather unprecedented husband and wife tag-team to finish in 1st and 3rd positions on the chip count at the end of the day.
Stacy Kopacz chipped up nicely when her 2,2 caught a set on the flop and she found a caller on a top pair.

David Kopacz on the other hand caught an opponent all-in, and his pocket 10s got the better of the other guy’s As,Ks when the board brought no improvement to either of them. That pot gave him the chip lead, making him the only player to go over the 100,000 chips mark at the end of the day.
Jamin Stokes finished 2nd, with 9,500 chips as Stacey Kopacz narrowly missed making it a husband and wife 1-2 with 90,400.
