WSOPE 2011 to be held in France

The WSOPE has yielded better and better quality fields every time it was held since its inception however the sheer numbers associated with the European extension of the WSOP, have repeatedly failed to impress the organizers. In 2011, it was decided that the WSOPE would be moved from London – where it was always held thus far – to France, in hopes of attracting more players. The scene of the action will be Cannes, where two casinos – the Casino Barriere de Cannes Croisette and the Hotel Majestic Barriere – will host 7 WSOPE events, two more than the London series. Not only was the number of WSOPE events increased, the size of the starting fields was almost doubled as well. The higher number of participants will mean bigger prize-pools which – in turn- will attract even more participants, so it’s obvious the organizers are excited about the both the change of venue and the changes planned for the
poker tournaments themselves.
A spokesman from Caesars Interactive Entertainment said that the two casinos involved are both members of an extremely well-oiled organization that will serve as an ideal springboard for the WSOP brand in France.
The tendency to expand isn’t relegated to the WSOPE only. The Las Vegas WSOP, the biggest series of live poker events in the world, will hopefully see a marked growth as well in 2011. There will be more than 50 WSOPE events, which will mean more than 50 bracelet opportunities for everyone, not just the most generously bankrolled crowd. If last year is any indication, prop bets will again flourish and players like Ivey and Dwan will yet again play in as many events as they can. Events like the 250 player heads-up event, now accessible to everyone, are already buzzing up the poker world. Everything thrown into the pot, the
2011 WSOP may well turn out to be the biggest one in history.
