WSOPE – Day 11 Report

Day 11 of the 2012 WSOPE saw an event wrap up and another one – the Main Event – take a few decisive strides towards its conclusion. First on the Day 11 menu was the final heads-up stage of event #5, the long procrastinated €10,450 Mix Max NL Holdem event. Brandon Cantu faced off with Jonathan Aguiar in this one. Aguiar had some pretty vivid memories from this same event from 2011, when he busted out on the bubble. This time, he exacted some sweet-tasting revenge, going all the way, picking up the
WSOP bracelet and adding some €258k to his bankroll.
At the start of the heads-up stage, Cantu held the chip lead over his opponent. Aguiar rebounded though, picking up a massive all-in pot after he made a backdoor boat against his opponent’s diamond flush. There was a little more back and forth and Cantu managed to regain the lead before the day was called at 5 AM. On the final day of action, the two players started off on relatively even stacks. Aguiar was the one who took the chip lead first and he never looked back from there on out. The fact that Cantu seemed rather upset all-through the match-up undoubtedly helped him as well.
The final hand of the event saw Aguiar’s Ac, Kc defeat Cantu’s pocket deuces for the win.
230 players returned to the tables on the second day of the 2012 WSOPE’s Main Event. After 6 levels of action, the field successfully played down to 80. The one who had the largest stack bagged at the end of the day was Sergii Baranov.
Michael Mizrachi was the start of the day chip leader. He adopted a loose-aggressive playing style though and by the 11th level of the
poker tournament, he was in trouble. He busted out unlike the other start of the day large stack, Bertrand Grospellier, who chipped up steadily through the day.
Joe Hachem, Faraz Jaka and Antonio Esfandiari were all eliminated too.
