WSOPE – Michael Mizrachi Leads Main Event

Day 9 of the 2012 WSOPE proved to be an eventful one indeed. For starters, event #5, the €10,450 Mix Max NL Holdem one, failed to play down to a winner, due to the fact that Jonathan Aguiar and Brandon Cantu failed to reach a decision in their heads-up bout. The two players hacked away at each-other, but in the end, when the day was called, they both had close to 1.5 million chips with no predictable end in sight. Given that the second day 1 flight of the Main Event was scheduled to kick off on Sunday, a bit of a dilemma developed as both players said they planned on playing in the Main Event.
The first day 1 flight of the Main Event did kick off on Day 9 though, and it saw Michael Mizrachi rise to the top of the provisional chip count.
215 players registered for the first day of action, and at the end of the day, after six massive 90-minute levels, 115 were still standing. Mizrachi managed to accumulate 234.8k chips to clinch the lead.
Barely had the event kicked off when a true monster of a hand developed. Those involved were Henry Tran, Brandon Barnes and Erik Cajelais. Interestingly enough, Cajelais and Barnes both had the same nut straight, while Tran had a flush draw which did in fact fill up on the river, sending both his opponents packing. A visibly aggravated Cajelais stormed out of the Majestic Barriere. Tran went on to finish the day with a healthy stack.
Early in the
poker tournament Mizrachi got it all-in with an 8,6o against Konstantinos Mamaliadis’ pocket Qs on a board of 7,3,8,6. The river was a harmless 5 and Mizrachi managed to hit his first double-up, which then provided enough fuel for his eventual rise to the top. Chris Moorman, Vanessa Selbst, Jeffrey Lisandro, Victor Ramdin and Fabrice Soulier were all eliminated on Day 1A.
