Day 14 of the 2012 WSOPE carried a special significance: it was the day that saw both the €10,450
NL Holdem Main Event and the €50k Majestic High Roller play down to their winners.
Everything considered, Phil Hellmuth has had an excellent 2012 thus far. During the WSOP, he managed to finally break his bracelet curse and add a 12th piece of jewelry to his trophy case. Now, he managed to add yet another bracelet: his 13th, cementing his position as the top
WSOP bracelet winner of all time. Of course, the €1,022,376 top prize was a nice cherry on the cake for the Poker Brat. Given that it was the WSOPE’s Main Event in which he triumphed, Hellmuth set another record in the same go: he became the only player in the world to possess both a WSOP and a WSOPE Main Event title.
To cap it all off, the win positioned Hellmuth on top of the WSOP Player of the Year race.
Jason Mercier started the final day of the event with the shortest stack. Sure enough, compelled to take risks often and early, he was the first player who bit the dust. He was followed to the rail by Stephane Girault, who was eliminated by Phil Hellmuth.
Joseph Cheong continued to be active, looking to add to his stack every step of the way. He was the one who busted Paul Tedeschi in 6th place.
Christopher Brammer found the path to the rail next, courtesy of Sergii Baranov. One of the most menacing contenders, Cheong was eliminated in 4th place, picking up a €292k reward. Stephane Albertini’s elimination in 3rd place set the heads-up stage of the action. The final hand of the event saw Phil Hellmuth’s A,10o soar past Baranov’s A,4o for the win.
Mike Watson in the meantime picked up a cool €1 million for his win in the €50k High Roller. Watson bested John Juanda heads-up. Juanda picked up €600k for his efforts.
