Wynn Scrambling to Set Up Online Presence

Wynn Resorts Ltd. Have never been friends of the idea of legal and regulated online poker and gambling, but with the new vert of the industry springing up all around them, they have been forced to make a move. Two online poker sites (WSOP.com and Ultimate Poker) are already up and running, and while the intra-state online poker market doesn’t look particularly attractive at the moment, as more and more states legalize and regulate the games, the age of inter-state compacts isn’t far off the horizon. Thus far, the plausibility and the workability of the idea has been proven: both WSOP.com and Ultimate Poker were fully capable of restricting their accepted player-base to Nevada residents/visitors only, and they also put their anti- underage gambling measures into service successfully.
According to the latest rumors, Wynn, who have already fallen behind in the Nevada
online poker/gambling race, plan to set up and to run their online operation in New Jersey. While lawmakers there have indeed passed a bill concerning the legalization and regulation of the activity, no operations have been launched in the Garden State yet. Wynn’s online operation will apparently be run from Caesars Atlantic City, and it will eventually use the same
888Poker platform that WSOP.com currently uses.
Wynn do not yet have a physical presence in the state, and thus aren’t currently eligible for a license. According to 888 Holdings’ Itai Frieberger though, the intense competition which will come with the legalized markets will see many odd partnerships – often between competitors – struck up.
None of the Wynn officials commented on the rumors, while Caesars’ Vice President of Corporate Communications said that Caesars’ agreement with 888 in regards to the online poker platform was not an exclusive one.
Wynn and Caesars are locked in a bitter competition over the sole casino license the city of Boston plans to award in 2014.
