Zynga Launches New Platform – Poker Included

Online gaming company Zynga have long been looking for a way to launch a real-money gaming platform, which would generate independent revenues for the company. Last week, they may have taken a decisive step in that direction: a company spokesperson announced that Zynga would launch their own online gaming platform at Zynga.com, which could be accessed by players directly, without having to go through Facebook.
Zynga have made a name for themselves through Facebook, creating games which proved to be massively popular with the social network’s users. Zynga have earned about 90% of their revenue from Facebook, while accounting for about 12% of the social media giant’s revenues. The move is obviously one meant to open up a new revenue stream for the company, one independent of Facebook. It may also turn out to be a preparation maneuver aimed at positioning the company before the real money online gambling market is regulated in the US.
According to Zynga CEO Mark Pincus, his company’s move is meant to enable players to connect to more Zynga games and to enable Zynga partners to be able to connect to more players directly through Zynga.com. The new platform, which includes
online poker too, shall be made available to social media gaming developers later in 2012.
The company hasn’t made a secret of the fact that it’s looking to make the move into real money gaming and that this new platform is meant to pave the way towards a real money platform. It has been known since January that Zynga have been looking to partner up with a major casino brand.
According to Pinchus, Zynga are “definitely” in talks with all the major gambling operators like Wynn and given the fact that all the major players are under pressure to secure online partnerships as soon as possible, a deal involving the Zynga real money gaming platform may come within a few months’ time.
