A Second Look at the 2013 WSOP November Nine – Part 8

Seat #6 of the November Nine belongs to Marc McLaughlin, the 25-year-old from Brossard, Quebec, whose presence at the final table as the only Canadian isn’t the least bit surprising, considering the results Canadians have attained at this year’s Series. Thus far, Canadians have 10 WSOP bracelets this year and McLaughlin may just add another one to that tally provided he makes it all the way in November. If he does manage to pull off the deed, he will become the second French Canadian
WSOP Main Event Champion, the first one being Jonathan Duhamel.
Like pretty much all the other final table participants, McLaughlin is not a newcomer to WSOP action. In fact, he’s played in the last 5 WSOP Main Events, and in two of them he even managed to finish in the money. Regardless of his past accomplishments though, this year’s finish will be the shiniest jewel in his poker career crown, whether he makes it all the way to the top or fades away early.
His two WSOP cash finishes were rather deep ones: in 2009, he finished 30th, taking home $253.9k, about as much as he would’ve won by going all the way in a smaller side-event. In 2011, he finished 86th, picking up $76.1k. He played in other WSOP events too, and although an actual bracelet has thus far eluded him, he made a spectacular deep run in a $1.5k
NL Holdem event in 2011, finishing 3rd and picking up $292.6k.
Being the only other French Canadian to get this close to the coveted Main Event title, McLaughlin has revealed that he would be coached by Duhamel for the big November showdown. Apparently though, McLauglin will need Duhamel’s support in the fame aspect of his final table presence as much as in actual poker strategy.
