195 of the world’s best poker players reconvened for day 2 of the 2010 WSOPE’s Main Event the other day. Leading the illustrious field were James Mitchell, an Irish Poker Open champion, and John Dolan, one of privileged who will return to Las Vegas in November to do battle for the ultimate prize in poker: the
WSOP’s Main Event bracelet.
6 levels of play were scheduled for day 2, at the end of which Victor Blom, the Swedish player many believe to be the notorious Isildur1, managed to clinch the chip lead. Blom’s 443k stack was just enough to plant him ahead of Bojan Gledovic, but the caliber of the names following in the top 10 was about as daunting as it could get: Phil Ivey, Arnaud Mattern and Andrew Pantling were all within arm’s reach of the chip leader, but Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Roland De Wolfe were also close by, albeit a tad further down the provisional chip count.
Nicholas Levi, the chip leader of the first Day 1 flight was among the early large-stacks, until he successfully chipped up Phil Ivey when the latter made a nut flush . The
Full Tilt Poker pro took the chip lead and a few hands later, he extended his lead quite a bit by sending James Keys to the rail. Ivey’s feel-good run would not last though, and by the end of the day, he dropped some of his chips. He still managed to move on as one of the large stacks though.
Viktor Blom swung into action during the second part of the day. The Swede crushed skulls and trod on fallen opponents at the “table of death” where he became responsible for most of the 11 eliminations that had occurred during the first 3 and a half levels of action.
