2011 Aussie Millions – Day 9 wraps up

The 9th day of the 2011 Aussie Millions saw plenty of action yet again. As the day wound down, two winners earned their gold stripes, an event kicked off and a welcome party was held. If that’s not enough poker excitement for a day, we really don’t know what is…
The event that got rolling was event #7, the $1,150 NL Holdem Rebuys event. It played host to only 86 registrants, which was a rather significant decrease from last year’s 100, but the fact that a Full Tilt Poker golf event was held during the green felt hostilities of event #7 probably had a lot to do with the way registration shaped up. Nothing could keep Faraz Jaka, Tony Dunst, Neil Channing, Scott Montgomery and Shane Warne away from the tables though. None of these players managed to gain any traction during day 1 however and they all bit the dust.

Due to the relatively low number of registrants, only those who make the final table will be paid. The smallest prize will tip the scale at AUD$6,820. Randy Dortman managed to amass the largest stack of chips. He was followed by Oliver Speidel and JP Kelly.

In the meantime, event #6, the $1,100 6-handed NL Holdem one, came to an end with Tim O’Shea’s victory. He was the one who started the final day in the chip lead, and while he had his ups and downs through the day, he managed to turn his early advantage into a win.
He bested Daniel Neilson heads-up to grab the AUD$56k top prize.

The other event that saw a conclusion was Full Tilt Poker’s $25k Shootout Invitational. David Oppenheim won the event, besting a 24-player starting field which included Tom Dwan, Howard Lederer, John Juanda and Patrik Antonius. Oppenheim bested James Bord heads-up to pick up the AUD$250k top prize.
