The eighth day of the Aussie Millions saw events unfold according to plan. Two events got going and another one wrapped up, yielding a winner. The first event to get underway was the $1,100 6-handed NL Holdem event, which drew a starting field of 373 players. That meant a prize-pool of AUD$372k, more than worth getting one’s hands dirty for.
Notables to enter the event and to fail to make it past the Day 1 hurdle were Tony Hachem, Scott Montgomery, Neil Channing and Sorel Mizzi. Also biting the dust were Peter Jetten and Kristian Lunardi.
The money bubble was reached on day 1, even though it was set for 36th place. The field blasted straight past the money bubble and played right down to the final two tables. Tim O’Shea was the player who amassed the largest stack of chips.
Andrew Hinrichsen did pretty well too, and so did Daniel Nielsen, who’d finished high in event #4 too just a day before.
Event #5, the $1,100 8-Game Mix one wrapped up as Richard Ashby took down the top prize. He took home AUD$23k for his efforts. He had to best 68 players on his way to the top. Among these players were second place man Bruno Portaro, who took home AUD$13k, and third place man Casey Kastle, who won AUD$10k.
Not to be outdone by its online competitors,
Full Tilt Poker decided to host a $25k invitational event at the 2011 Aussie Millions. The event plays out in a shootout format (in other words: winner takes all) and some of Full Tilt’s biggest names are present at the tables.
Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan, Annette Obrestad and Tony G were all invited to take part.
Two heats are already completed and the qualifying players are Barny Boatman, David Oppenheim, James Bord and Patrik Antonius.
