2011 Aussie Millions Main Event – Day 1B

There was much less fanfare at the start of the second Day 1 flight of the Aussie Millions Main Event than on Day 1A, but the starting field was almost as large: 209 players showed up to cough up the buy-in and to do their best to advance to day 2. For most of them, that dream would go up in smoke during the day though, as by the end of it, only 80 players were still standing.
Jeff Rossiter was the one who shot to the top, having amassed a stack of 154,900 chips. Martin Drewe, who had won event #1 of this year’s Aussie Millions was there at the top again, with a stack of 136,100 chips. Jay Kinkade and Jeff Sarwer had great day 1Bs too.
Plenty of “name” pros registered for the event as well. Sorel Mizzi, Full Tilt Poker’s Chris Ferguson, Eric Assadourian and Jeffrey Lisandro were all among the survivors, together with Neil Channing and Roland De Wolfe.
As always though, the casualty-list was even more impressive celebrity-wise. Annette Obrestad was among those eliminated, together with Gus Hansen, David Benyamine, Andy Bloch, Carlos Mortensen and David Oppenheim.

It’s always a favorite pastime for railbirds to keep an eye on the progress of the reigning champion of each event, analyzing the odds of a repeat (which are usually so minute that they barely deserve a thought). Well this time, their task has been made extremely simple: Tyron Krost, last year’s Aussie Millions Main Event Champion, has already been eliminated.

Krost’s Final hand came when he locked horns with Gavin Griffin on a Q,9,6 flop. He had A,Q (top pair-top kicker) at that point, and he shoved all-in hoping for a double-up. Griffin had pocket rockets though, and both the turn and the river failed to come to Krost’s rescue.
