2011 PCA – Bounty Shootout and High Roller event updates

High buy-in tournaments are apparently gaining faster in popularity than all the other kinds and there no better testimony to that than the fact that the $25k High Roller event of the
2011 PCA saw 151 players cough up the buy-in, significantly up from last year’s 84 participants.
Players waded through 8 levels on the first day of the event. At the end of the hostilities, Ryan Fair had 217k chips to assume the position of the leader. Fair is by no means new to the green felt. As a matter of fact, he’s quite an online player: he won the Spring Championship of
Online Poker Main Event at
PokerStars last year and he amassed around $2 million in profits at PokerStars alone.
The reigning champ, William Reynolds wasn’t about to cede the crown without a fight though. Reynolds amassed 170k chips to finish second. Also finishing on more than decent stacks were Tie Reiman, Kyle Julius and Pokerstars’ own Leo Fernandez. Among the name players who took to the tables in this event were Viktor Blom, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel and Bertrand Grospellier.
The $5k NAPT Bounty Shootout also rolled along, with 36 players returning to the felt to work down to the final table.
There were plenty of name players and plenty of interesting stories developed in this event too. One such story was the sibling rivalry between Michael and Nick Binger. It all ended bad for Nick who got bounced by his brother, when hid K,8o fell to Michael’s A,Ko.
Chris Klodnicki will probably also remember the day for a while. He shoved all-in holding nothing less than a full house, but was beaten to the pot by an opponent who came from behind to secure a higher boat. Klodnicki was then bounced on the very next hand.
The final table kicks off on Sunday.
