2011 WCOOP – Bertrand Grospellier Misses Out on Bracelet

The 21st day of the 2011 WCOOP saw no bracelets awarded. There was plenty of action regardless though as several events rolled towards their conclusions as the Series wound down.
Event #58, the $500 PLO Heads-up two–day event was still going on, its initial starting field of 401 entrants seriously reduced: after 5 rounds of heads-up PLO action, 16 players were left in contention. Among them were Vincent Van Der Fluit and Scott Clements, both of them still looking to score the $50,125 top prize.
PokerStars’ own Noah Boeken played as well, but he was bounced during the 5th round. He got the last of his chips into the middle holding A,A,9,8 on a flop of 10,9,5, but failed to get anywhere against his opponent’s two pair. Other ‘name’ players who made the money but busted out shortly afterwards were Richard Toth, Joe Ebanks and Jonathan Jaffe.
Round 6 of the event saw Scott Clements go up against ‘valitsius’ and Vincent Van Der Fluit lock horns with ‘ILIOS72’.

Event #59, the $2k HORSE two-day event drew a starting field of 141 players. The original guarantee of $200k was surpassed, although by not as much as some of the other events’ guarantees: a $282,200 prize-pool was on offer at the end of registration.
With two table-worth of players left in the event, PokerStars’ Bertrand Grospellier took down a massive pot which allowed him to begin the final stretch of the tournament in the chip lead.
Bryn Kenney was the first one to be ejected from the final table, followed by A1Jags and then by Alex Kravchenko.
Grospellier seemed poised to take home another WCOOP bracelet, but Marcel Bjerkmann apparently had different plans: he bounced the Frenchman in 5th place, just before the day was called, so day 2 would only see 5 players returning to action. Thanks to the pot he took from Grospellier, Bjerkmann will start the final dash of the event with the largest stack of chips.
