2011 WCOOP – Day 12 Report

So far, pretty much every WCOOP 2011 day saw at least a ‘name’ player win one of its events. The pros have been out in force indeed, and even members of Team PokerStars Pro have tasted victory a couple of times. Shane Schleger’s win on day 12 meant that of the 33 events, 3 were now won by
PokerStars’ own players.
Schleger had been flirting with the final table during event #5 of the WCOOP, and he just managed to miss out on the opportunity then. His chance for redemption came in the $320 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Event, and he grabbed hold of it with both hands.
The event drew a starting field of 354 players. These guys combined buy-ins to create a prize-pool of $106.2k, putting the $50k guarantee of the event to shame.
Schleger had an excellent run through the event, and by the time the field played down to the final two tables, he already had the chip lead. He then threw some more gas onto the fire by winning the largest pot of the tournament up to that point. Going into the final table, he had more than twice as many chips as the next player.
He then dropped around 200k chips before he managed to bounce the short-stacked CKOTUHA. While from a chip-count perspective, the move wasn’t particularly significant, it did manage to turn things around for Schleger.
‘Flying Smile’ bit the dust next, followed by Mikhaylo. OCrupie was bounced in third place to set up the heads-up stage. GJ1515 was the one Schleger had to dispose of on his way to the top. The heads-up stage lasted for more than an hour, during which the two players made quite a bit of use of the chat-box too, but eventually, the PokerStars pro walked away with the laurels, taking home $21.7k. The runner-up collected $15.9k for his efforts.
