2011 WSOP – Arkadiy Tsinis Wins $1,500 NL Holdem Event

The 26th day of the 2011 WSOP only saw a single bracelet awarded: the one which rewarded Arkadiy Tsinis for his $1,500 NL Holdem Event win. There were a handful of other events rolling on as well, but none of them managed to play down to a winner.
The final day of event #38 saw only two players make their way back to the table. Tsinis faced Michael Blanovsky heads-up. The two of them had played a few heads-up hands already on the previous day, their bout vilely interrupted by the 10-level rule. Tsinis began the day with a massive chip lead: he had 7.11 million chips to Blanovsky’s 2.7 million.
Blanovky’s only goal was obviously not to go down without a fight, and he overachieved on that goal.
He first chipped away at his opponent’s advantage, until they were nearly even in chips. He then took a bad hit and fell to 3.7 million chips, before a truly massive pot came about that changed the outlook of the match-up completely. He shoved all-in on pocket 10s and Tsinis made the call with K,Q. Although the flop did give him a straight draw, the turn and the river missed him completely and suddenly Tsinis found himself the underdog, burdened with a 3-1 chip handicap.

On the very next hand, Tsinis shoved all-in again and Blanovsky – who used to play online at PokerStars - made the call. Tsinis’ pocket 7s held up against Blanovsky’s Ac,2c and they were back to square one, all even in chips. It eventually took a nasty mistake to make the difference between the two players. Blanovsky suddenly decided to intimidate his opponent holding nothing but a Q-high. Little did he know that Tsinis would shrug it all off behind his flush. Tsinis simply called off his opponent’s entire stack and managed to deal a crippling blow from which Blanovsky would never recover. His stack continued to slide and by the time he shoved the last of his chips into the middle, he had only around 2 million chips left. The final hand saw Tsinis’ Q,J best Blanovski’s A,10 by hitting a straight in the river.
Tsinis picked up $540 k for his win.
