2011 WSOP – Ben Lamb Wins $10k PLO Championship Event

The 10-level rule once again prevented several bracelets from being awarded on day 28 of the 2011 WSOP. Eventually, only one piece of jewelry found its way to an owner: the one awarded by the $10k PLO world Championship event.
Only 4 players returned to action on the last day of this one, with Ben Lamb leading the way chips-wise. The other 3 players were: Full Tilt Poker’s online hellraiser Sami Kelopuro, Christopher King and John Shipley.
The first one to hit the rail was Shipley. Ben Lamb was the one responsible for his elimination. The next victim was King, who fell to Sami Kelopuro. The heads-up stage was thus set to pit Kelopuro against Lamb.

Lamb had a pretty decent chip-lead going into the heads-up stage. His 6,6 million chips matched up well against Kelopuro’s 4.1 million, but as it’s often the case in these events, his advantage was short-lived. Lamb rebounded too though and he took the lead again heading into the final hand of the event.
The final hand of the day saw Kelopuro make a huge preflop raise, which effectively pot committed him. Lamb made the call and the As,9h,3d fell on the flop. Lamb checked as Kelopuro fired out another massive bet, which Lamb yet again called. The Qs which fell on the turn caused yet another check from Lamb and a bet from Kelopuro. Lamb raised it to pot-size though, which prompted Kelopuro to push all-in. Kelopuro had a top two pair with his A,Q,K,7 and at that point he was in the lead, as Lamb only had a flush draw and a wheel draw with his 6s,5h,4s,2d. The river card would decide the hand and it fell a 5d, filling Lamb’s wheel and giving him the bracelet and the $814k top prize.

Ben Lamb had come close to landing a bracelet 10 days prior to his PLO Championship win: he finished 3rd in the $3k PLO event.
