2011 WSOP – Day 16 Wrap-Up

Day 16 of the 2011 WSOP saw plenty of action outside the two bracelet-awarding events too. An event played down to the final table, another one soared past its money bubble and two new events got rolling.
The $5k NL Holdem shootout’s second round kicked off on day 16, with 40 players returning to action. The structure for Day 2 was a simple one: the 40 players were seated at 10 4-handed tables, so at the end of the round, 10 would emerge with the right to return to the final table on Day 3.
One of the first to secure his final table seat was Sean Getzwiller. He moved past Ben Tollerene in the final hand of his table to advance. Others to make the cut were Tom Marchese (who bested JP Kelly on his way to the final table) and Adam Junglen.
The final table of the event will be played in a single table SNG format.

The $1,500 Stud 8 or Better Event saw 172 players return to the tables. At the end of the day, only 23 were still in contention, the money bubble a distant memory for them. John Cernuto and Artie Cobb finished in the money, but they both failed to make it to the final day. ESPN’s Norman Chad had an excellent day. He played solid poker all through the day and kept adding to his stack, to finish in the more than respectable 4th place. Others to survive were: Kirill Gerasimov, Mike Sexton and Frank Kassela.

The $2,500 NL Holdem Six-handed event kicked off on Day 16, with a record breaking starting field. 1,378 players showed up for the chance to grab a bracelet in this tourney, among them Tom Dwan, Sorel Mizzi, Faraz Jaka and Isaac Haxton. Tyler Cornell had the lead at the end of the day as the field had whittled down to 189.

The other event to get going on Day 16 was the $10k Limit Holdem World Championship event. 152 players registered for this one.
11 players remained at the end of the day, with PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu topping the provisional chip leader board.
