On day 26 of the 2011 WSOP, a whole bunch of different events rolled on. The $1,500 NL Holdem Shootout (event #41), saw 60 players return to its tables on day 2 of the tournament.
Eventually, the field managed to play down all the way to the final table. 3 “name” players survived the day, among them Team
PokerStars’ Eugen Katchalov.
Katchalov fought his way to the final table though Sergey Rybachenko. The final hand of their bout saw Rybachenko’s As, 3s square off against Katchalov’s Q,2o. A Q on the turn sealed the deal for good in Katchalov’s favor.
Jordan Rich was another “name” player who made the final table. Rich bested Dale Burner heads-up to earn his final table seat, when his 10,3o made short work of Burner’s 9,8.
The third notable player to advance was Hal Lubarsky who put in a truly impressive performance in this event. Lubarsky defeated Ari Engel in round two to advance to the final table.
Day 2 of the $10k PLO World Championship Event saw 156 players belly up to the tables. Ban Lamb, Sami Kelopuro and Sam Stein all survived as the field played down to 38 players. Lamb will lead the field when the action kicks off on Day 3.
Another $1,500 NL Holdem event kicked off on Day 26, drawing a starting field of 2,857 players. The action was fast and furious, and by the day’s end, only 385 players were still in contention. David Baker made the top 10 as Age Spets claimed the top spot for the day.
The other event that got going on day 26 of the
WSOP was the $2.5k Razz Event. 363 players showed up for this one, almost as many as last year. Once the action got going, an extremely high attrition rate pushed more than half the field to the sidelines. 166 survived the first day of action. George Lewis clinched the chip lead, but a bevy of “name” players like Chau Giang, Chad Brown, Shawn Buchannan, Hoyt Corkins and Jimmy Fricke finished in the top 10.
