2011 WSOP – Day 3 Stories

Ben Lamb had dominated Day 1D and Day 2B, but his day 3 at the 2011 WSOP Main Event was an entirely different story. He began with a stack of more than 500k chips. His day turned out to be an endless struggle which failed to yield any kind of traction for him. Basically, he spent the entire day in damage control mode. At the end of it, he still had 354k chips left, which was still well above the average.
PokerStars’ Kevin Saul had a pretty bad day too although not as bad as Lamb’s. He actually managed to get something going, and at one point he had 790k chips in his stack. He dropped around half of it though, to finish with 392k.

Daryl Jace had a radically different day 3 run. He began with 333k chips, but he managed to find traction and he kept exploiting his edges all day long. The hand that sparked his run was one in which he picked up pocket deuces. Billy Paradiso and Don Nguyen tagged along for the ride and soon a massive 3-way pot developed. Eventually, Paradiso shoved all-in and Jace made the call. Sure enough, Paradiso had pocket Ks against Jace’s pocket 2s. The flop fell 7,4,2 giving Jace a set of 2s right away. The 8c fell on the turn, followed by the As on the river to seal the deal.
Jace later caught another nice chip-up when his pocket Js won a coin-flip against another player’s A,K.

Phil Hellmuth only had about 64k chips at the beginning of the day. He caught a fast start though and he was soon up to 110k. He eventually fell to 25k, after a busted bluff and another unlucky hand. He then hit the 72k mark to climb up all the way to 134k before dipping back to 77k. He did survive the day, so he will continue to chase that illusive 12th bracelet on day 4. Online poker players Lars Bonding and Sami Kelopuro both finished on decent stacks.
