Day 34 of the 2011 WSOP awarded a single bracelet. Marsha Wolak was the only one to go home with some gold jewelry, after winning the $1k Ladies’ Championship Event. There were other events on the day 34 schedule too though.
The $1k NL Holdem tournament for instance, saw its second day 1 flight kick off. 2,644 players showed up, among them some name pros. The day 1b yield pushed the overall number of participants in the event to 4, 567, almost breaking the record for the largest ever starting field in a $1k NL Holdem
WSOP event. The $648k first-place prize which resulted was also quite an impressive achievement.
After 10 levels of action, the field played down to 380 players.
Eric Afriat was the one who finished with the largest stack. “Name” players to survive Day 1b were Shane Schleger, Terrence Chan and ex-
PokerStars pro Greg Raymer.
686 players will return to the tables on Day 2 of the event.
The $50k Players’ Championship returned to action as well on its day 2. 123 players showed up to play down towards the money bubble. Last year’s winner Michael Mizrachi’s title defense fell well short of the mark: he was among the first victims of Day 2. He got his stack into the middle on a Ks, 8s, and while he did catch a K on the flop against David Benyamine’s A,9o, a 9 on the turn and then another one on the river sent him to the rail.
Eric Seidel, Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Patrik Antonius and John Juanda all made it through the day.
Doyle Brunson was eliminated and given the fact that he had said he would quit poker if he couldn’t find any traction at the WSOP, we may have seen Tex Dolly’s last game. After his tournament was over, he tweeted that he would not play in the Main Event.
74 players remained at the end of the second day. Ben Lamb was the one who managed to amass the largest stack. Gus Hansen finished second in chips. Josh Arieh and Steve Billirakis also made the top 10.
