Day 8 of the 2011 WSOP saw event #8, the first one of a series-long streak of $1k NL Holdem events, play down to the final 3 players. Jon Turner had built a massive chip lead at the end of day 2 of the tournament, and he took full advantage of it to fight his way into the top 3, although an unlucky hand cost him quite a bit late on day 3. Thanks to that mishap, both surviving opponents have now surpassed him in the chip counts, leaving him the short-stack going into the final sprint.
Sadan Turker is now the one who holds the chip lead. Sean Getzwiller is second and Turner is 3rd.
Despite the small buy-in, several “name” players showed up to play in event #8, which has generated a first-place prize of $611k. Many of these “name” pros survived the money bubble: Eric Mizrachi finished in 50th place. Jonathan Duhamel faded away in 54th.
After 2 days of action, only 15 players remained in the $1,500 NL Holdem Six-max event. Jeffrey Papola, who is already the proud possessor of a
WSOP bracelet, has the largest stack. David Vamplew survived as well. Notable finishes in the event were those of Nacho Barbero (51st place) and Greg Mueller (36th).
The $10k Omaha Hi/Lo Championship event has also reached its final 22. With the money bubble hurdle out of the way, those remaining -among them Mike Sexton, Shaun Deeb, Freddy Deeb and Josh Arieh – all have their eyes on the top prize of $465k.
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier barely squeezed past the money bubble: he finished 27th.
More than 1,300 players showed up for day 1 of the $1.5k Triple Chance event. After a day’s action, only 165 players remained in contention. JC Tran finished the day near the top of the chip-count, but he’s not the only “name” player to have survived: Isaac Haxton and Carlos Mortensen made it too.
