2011 WSOP – Hellmuth Still Looking for #12

Day 36 of the 2011 WSOP saw quite a few significant deeds unfold: the $1k NL Holdem Event played down to its final table. The $50k Players’ Championship event reached its unofficial final table too, and – you’ve guessed that right – Phil Hellmuth is still in contention, looking to score his 12th career bracelet. Two more events kicked off as well, the final two of this year’s side-events. The 3rd day of the $1k NL Holdem event (#54), saw 44 players return to the action. Maxim Lykov of Team PokerStars Pro’s Russian wing played well all day. As a result of that, he was the one heading into the unofficial final table with the largest stack.
The official final table was reached with the elimination of Mario Doria. Dror Michaelo was the one responsible for the bursting of the final table bubble.
Lykov continued to dominate after the bubble too, thus he will be the one returning with the largest stack on the final day of action.

Event #55, the $50k Players’ Championship event was the one that hogged all the limelight. 29 players returned to action, looking to make the money first (the money bubble had been set for 19th place). Phil Hellmuth was among the contenders, but just before the bursting of the money bubble, his stack had whittled down to one of the shortest in the tournament. It looked like the Poker Brat would not make the money after all, but Michael Mizrachi’s elimination on the bubble gave him the perfect opportunity to sneak into the money.
The action sped up a little after the bubble, and Josh Arieh, Jeffrey Lisandro, Michael Binger and Barry Greenstein were all eliminated. Minh Ly managed to amass a stack of 5 million+ to clinch the chip lead at the end of the day. Brian Rast was second with 2.6 million.
Hellmuth finished on a relatively healthy stack of 2.2 million, after he rebounded from a near brush with the rail.
