2011 WSOP Main Event – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the 2011 WSOP Main Event saw a field of 1,866 return to the tables: the survivors of the two day 2 flights. Everyone was keen on advancing thus taking a huge step towards the money bubble. Set for 693rd place, the bursting of the money bubble will guarantee all those who live past it a payday of $19,359. While taking home a $9.3k profit is much better than losing the $10k buy-in, the real paying positions only begin around 72nd place. By that stage, all survivors will probably be focused on winning the event though.
Several ‘name’ players hit the rail on Day 3, among them Shaun Deeb. Deeb found it difficult to navigate the day, but he eventually got the last of his chips in well on pocket rockets against Heinzelman’s A,6o. The flop fell K,10,6 and Deeb’s grip on the pot remained solid. The Q on the turn conserved his lead, but the 6 on the river blew everything up in his face.
Other players who fell victim to the Day 3 attrition were: Joe Cada, Jason Mercier, Huck Seed, Annette Obrestad and Matt Savage. Justin Bonomo and Neil Channing failed to survive as well. Victor Ramdin, Greg Mueller and Mike Caro bowed out too.

Patrick Poirier represented the other end of the spectrum. He finished with the chip lead, having amassed a stack of more than 1.3 million chips. Daryl Jace had an excellent day too. He built a 1.2 million chips, enough for second place. Chris Kwon finished third with 944k chips. Peter Jetten survived the day on a healthy stack. JP Kelly, Ben Lamb, Erick Lindgren, Tony Hachem, Adam Junglen and John Cernuto survived as well. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu made the cut too. He built up a stack of $207k.

Jean Robert Bellande and Isabelle Mercier survived too, although on rather diminutive stacks. Phil Hellmuth who had started the day on a short-stack, survived too, but he remained a short-stack with 77k chips. 835 players remained at the end of the day.
