The 24th day of the
2011 WSOP was a rather disappointing one in the sense that it didn’t award any titles, despite the fact that it was supposed to distinguish two winners with gold bracelets: those of the $2.5k NL Holdem and the $10k HORSE events.
39 players returned to action on day 3 of the $2,500 NL Holdem event, aiming to play down to the final table first, and then all the way to the trophy. The final table alone took about half a day to reach though.
Thomas Miller was the one who managed to clinch the lead going into the final table. Eddy Sabat was another “name” player to make the final stretch. The final table action got rolling slowly, and when there were 5 players remaining, it ground to a halt on account of the 10-level rule. Middleton managed to preserve his advantage, and by the end of the day, he had worked his way up to 4 million chips. Eddy Sabat made the final 5 too, with about half as many chips in his stack.
23 players bellied up the tables of the $10k HORSE World Championship event at the beginning of Day 24.
Full Tilt Poker’s Tom Dwan was among these players, and by the time the final table was reached, he had floated to the top, possibly inducing spasms of fear in those who yet again dared to side-bet against his WSOP bracelet chances.
Everyone breathed another sigh of relief though, when Dwan busted out in 5th place. He did hang on around the top for a while, but he then began to lose traction, and before he shoved all-in, he had slid to 305k chips.
During a Stud Ace-high round, Shawn Buchannan made a flush to send him to the rail.
The survivors then went on to play down all the way to the heads-up stage, which Buchannan began with a 2-1 chip advantage, His opponent, Fabrice Soulier, bounced back though, and by the time the day was called, he had the chip lead.
