2011 WSOP – Rep Porter Wins $2,500 Razz Event

Day 29 of the 2011 WSOP awarded no fewer than 3 bracelets. The first of those went to Andre Akkari, winner of the $1,500 NL Holdem event. Like that event, event #44, the $2.5k Razz one, was supposed to award its bracelet on day 28. Like Event #43, #44 had only two players return to its tables on its final day.

Rep Porter (who used to play online at PokerStars) and Stephen Su were the two players who would do battle for this title. Su had a rather significant lead at the beginning of the final stretch: he had 1.6 million chips against Porter’s 1 million stack. Porter had already won a WSOP bracelet before, so a potential success in this event would’ve given him his second bling.
It only took a single hand for the balance of chips to change radically at the table. On the first hand of the day, Porter picked up a huge pot when his made nine bested Su’s missed 6-low draw. The roles were suddenly reversed: Porter had close to 1.6 million chips now, against Su’s 1.1 million.

After that first hand, Porter never really let his opponent catch any breaks. Su’s stack fluctuated between 300k and 800k, but it couldn’t break above that. Soon, it became obvious he had to make a move to get something going and sure enough, he got his last 120k chips into the middle, holding A,2,3. Porter made the call with 6,8,9. On 6th street, Su had a made 10, while Porter had a made Q. 7th street would decide everything: Porter landed a 4 to make a ninety-eight low, while Su’s card was a Q to give Porter the win, the bracelet and the first prize.
The bracelet was Porter’s second career one. He picked up $210k for his efforts.
