The 6th day of the 2012 Spring Championship of Online Poker saw the action kick into high gear at
PokerStars. There were no fewer than 15 events running, and the ‘name’ pros were yet again out in force. No fewer than 3 of them made final tables in various SCOOP events: Shaun Deeb and Jose Barbero final tabled the $25 NL Holdem 2x Chance Turbo event, while Bertrand Grospellier made the final table of the $2k Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event, which featured a guarantee of $50k.
The $25 NL Holdem 2x Chance Turbo event drew a massive starting field of 12,572 players. Testimony to the breakneck pace of the action was the fact that in a little over 5 hours, the field had whittled down to the final table and then to a winner. The one who clinched the title and the $62.2k top prize was PetjeXL, who defeated none other than Jose Barbero heads-up. Barbero picked up $44k for his efforts.
Shaun Deeb was in the mix at the final table too. He eventually finished in 5th place, for an $18.2k reward. Martin Staszko made a relatively deep run in this event as well: he finished 54th for a prize of $661.
The $2k Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event, where Bertrand Grospellier made the final table saw only 105 players register. The quality of the field was quite stellar though and the resulting prize-pool was $221k, so there was definitely something to play for there. Only the top 12 places were paid and several notables came up just short of the bubble. Viktor Blom finished 21st, while Jason Mercier made it all the way to 15th and Kostritsyn busted out on the bubble in 13th.
ElkY eventually busted out in 7th, picking up an $8.9k reward. The eventual winner of the event was a player known as ‘Borys313’ who took home $57.7k. Paul Volpe also made the final table. He ran out of steam in 5th, picking up $14.7k.
