2012 WSOP – Day 47 Report

Day 47 of the 2012 WSOP marked the first time that all the Main Event survivors were able to play under the same roof in the same tournament basically. By the end of the day – which consisted of five 2-hour levels – only 720 players were left standing.
Gaelle Baumann was the possessor of the largest stack at the beginning of Day 3 of the Main Event. She didn’t commit any mistakes during day 3, but she didn’t really add to her stack either, so after the first level of action others began to overtake her. The fact that she didn’t move forward didn’t mean she melted back into the field though: she still finished with twice as many chips as the average stack.
Vanessa Selbst will be back in action on Day 4 too. She got lucky late in the day, earning a much-needed double-up, which got her going, so by the time the action was called, she was sitting on a stack of 814k chips.

There were scores of other ‘name’ players who made it past the day 3 hurdle too: Sorel Mizzi and Jason Somerville both made it on healthy stacks. Shaun Deeb and Antonio Esfandiari were among the survivors as well, together with John Juanda, Mike McDonald, Sam Holden, Phil Collins and Joseph Cheong. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu also survived, albeit he only had 109k chips bagged at the end of the day.
Two previous winners of the Main Event moved on too: Huck Seed and Johnny Chan both managed to advance, unlike Dan Harrington who fell when his Q,5 was bested by an opponent’s A,2. Ben Lamb was another high profile victim. His demise crept up on him in a mere 2 hands: first, he got his chips into the middle on pocket Js against an opponent’s pocket Qs. Then, down to his last few chips, he shoved all-in with pocket 5s against Chris Moorman’s A,7o. Moorman made a pair of 7s on the flop and Lamb was out.
Faraz Jaka and Phil Galfond joined him on the rail. Dave D’Alessandro clinched the chip lead at the end of the day.
