2013 Aussie Millions - $100k Final Table Reached

The 2013 edition of the Aussie Millions’ $100k Challenge drew a starting field of 22 players, equaling last year’s event in this respect. The field combined buy-ins to generate a prize-pool of AUD$1.9 million. Needless to say, the attendees were almost exclusively well-bankrolled “name” pros. Andrew Robl, the player who topped the
online cash game losers’ list this week, was among the participants.
Many of registrants had to go home empty handed, because the event features an extremely strict payout table: only the top 4 finishers take home money, everyone else goes home with the wooden spoon.
Gus Hansen, the Great Dane doesn’t really seem capable of getting anything going poker-wise these days. He loses money online and now busted out of the $100k Challenge as well. He was joined on the rail by Sam Trickett,
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier, Tony Bloom, John Juanda and Patrik Antonius.
Last year’s winner of the event, current GPI PoY leader Dan Smith, was busy playing in the NBC Heads-up, so he didn’t attend.
Patrik Antonius’ presence in the event was quite insignificant as well. He only played for about 20 minutes before he was sent to the rail for good. While Antonius decided not to re-buy, Andrew Robl, who fell to Dan Shak too, re-bought and eventually made the final table.
The actual setting of the final table was a rather interesting affair too: Igor Kurganov scored a double elimination on the bubble, sending both Wilfred Yu and Chris Lee packing. Thus, instead of being 8-handed as scheduled, the final table will only feature 7 players.
Masa Kagawa also made the final stretch of the event, together with Vanessa Selbst, Tobias Reinkemeier, Dan Shak and Niklas Heinecker. Kagawa finished with the largest stack.
