2013 PCA Main Event – Day 2 Report

The second day of action saw the field come together under the same roof for the first time in the $10k Main Event of the 2013 PCA. 500 players showed up at the beginning of the day. Seven and a half hours went into the day’s hostilities, but in the end, the results were impressive indeed: of the 500 players, only 172 were left standing. With the money-bubble set for 144th place, Day 3 is likely to see some tightened-up action early on.

Nicolas Godoy was the player who finished the day with the largest stack of chips. He managed to beat Darren Elias for the top spot, by quite a margin in fact: Godoy finished with 724.7k chips, while Elias had 558.9k at the final whistle. Of the “name” crowd, Michael Mizrachi finished the highest: he made it all the way to 3rd place.
Most of Godoy’s chips came from none other than the start of the day chip leader, Maxim Lobzhanidze. The two players locked horns in a hand which started out as a 3-way one. The player who lit the fuse (made the initial raise) bailed out when the going got tough, and Lonzhanidze and Godoy ended up pushing a whole bunch of chips into the middle. It turned out to be quite the perfect hand too: Lobzhanidze had pocket Js for a set on the river, but his opponent had a straight for the win.
Mizrachi started the day on the right foot, and even though his stack had a few rather wild fluctuations, in the end he finished strongly, managing to retain his 3rd place in the chip counts. He scored a nice double elimination to close his account for the day. The players at the receiving end of his masterstroke were Jeff Hakim and Alex Bilokur.
