The Main Event of the
PCA's 2013 edition is finally in the books, and the winner is Dimitar Danchev of Bulgaria, who defeated American poker player Joel Micka heads up, to claim the title, the bragging rights and a top prize of $1.85 million.
Danchev had been the chip leader of day four of the
poker tournament and he had indeed made the final table on a decent-sized stack.
Quite possibly the most interesting story of the final table was of that of Joao Nogueira though, who had earned a seat at the tables of the prestigious tournament through an online qualifier, for which he only paid $1.10. He ended up taking down a $165,900 prize, quite a return on his investment indeed. In his final hand, Nogueira pushed all in on an A,6, getting called by Joel Micka who had pocket Queens. In the end, the American prevailed and Nogueira’s impressive live poker run was over.
Yann Dion was one of the “name” of players who made the final table. He finished seventh for $230,000. Andrey Shatilov followed him to the rail in 6th place, heading to the payout booth to pick up his share of the action: a $325k prize. Owen Crowe was the next player to go. His reward for sticking it out as long as he did was a handsome $435k haul.
Jonathan Roy was the next player to bite the dust. He was eliminated in the same hand as Crowe, by start of the day chip leader Jerry Wong, who scored a rather lucky double elimination. Wong himself wouldn’t last long in the meat-grinder though: he busted out in 3rd place, picking up $725k for his efforts.
Going into the heads-up stage, Danchev had a massive chip lead, which he used to his advantage. Micka’s share of the prize-pool was a $1.19 million cut.
