2013 PCA Super High Roller – Day 2 Report

Of the 47 initial registrants, 37 players returned to the tables of the PCA’s $100k Super High Roller on the second day of action. The goal was nothing less than to play down to the 8-handed final table, and indeed, that goal has been handily attained. Players were allowed to re-buy again at the beginning of the second day, but apparently only two of those eliminated on day 1 decided to give it another go: David Benefield and Jeff Gross wee the two players, who thus took the start of the day field to 39. Interestingly, Phil Hellmuth, who had busted on Day 1 as well, didn’t re-enter the poker tournament.
Jeff Gross’ day 2 run wasn’t a long one: he was eliminated during the very first level of action, at the hands of PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu had pocket Qs against Gross’ A,Q and his hand held to score the elimination.
Other players who bit the dust during the early going were Isaac Haxton and Olivier Busquet.

Tom Dwan had already taken advantage of the re-buy option on day 1, so he too was on his second bullet. He was eliminated on Day 2 too, together with Justin Bonomo, JC Alvarado and Jason Somerville. Somerville’s elimination was a bit of a surprise, since at the beginning of the day he had one of the largest stacks in the tournament. His demise came at the hands of Anthony Gregg, who used a lethal 1-2 punch to knock him out. First, he took a massive pot from Somerville, which left the latter crippled. Then, he moved in for the kill and finished him out for good.
David Sands finished the day with the largest stack: he managed to build a 6.68 million chip monster-stack.
