2013 Resolutions – Alex Wice

For those who may not have heard of Alex Wice yet: he’s one of the most radical online poker grinders at PokerStars, who measures volume and thus success not by the thousands of hands logged, but rather by the Supernova Elite statuses attained at the site. A couple of days ago, Wice has just made his 39th Supernova Elite run, and possibly egged on by his recent success, he set some pretty insane 2013 goals through a post in his personal blog.
According to the said post, Wice intends to reach Supernova Elite status no fewer than 8 times in 2013. How many major poker decisions does a goal like that mean? Around 10 million. Wice is apparently planning to generate around $1.4 million in rake at PokerStars, of which he will recover about $1 million through the rake return scheme offered to Supernova Elite players.

How can one realistically even ponder such an undertaking? According to his post, Wice has trained for it for quite a while now, and he set up his grinding station which includes a specially heated room aimed at improving his circulation and thus reducing anxiety.
Whether or not he can pull off this massive grind while generating a profit, is a different question though. According to Wice, winning is secondary to his top objective. Money doesn’t really matter to him, so he’s in it for the accomplishment rather than for the monetary gain resulting directly from the online poker action. Of course, multi-tabling will be essential for such a venture. Wice can reportedly comfortably play at 30 tables for long stretches of time so he has that part of the equation covered as well. Wice expects January to be his toughest month, so for starters he’ll take the challenge one step at a time.
