2013 WSOP Main Event – Day 2A/B in the Books

About an hour ago, the first day 2 flight of the
2013 WSOP Main Event, the one which saw the survivors from Day 1A and Day 1B return to the tables, went into the books. The structure of the first Day 2 flight was a bit peculiar: there was a reason why the organizers decided to call it Day 2A/B. The survivors from the above said two Day 1 flights re-convened in separate locations. Day 2A took place in the Amazon Room, while Day 2B – featuring a much bigger starting field – took place in the Pavilion and the Brasilia rooms.
In the end, one chip leader emerged in Nick Schwarmann, who had 413.6k chips bagged.
For those who may not have heard of Schwarmann yet: this guy is definitely no beginner. He won the Heartland Poker Tour’s Daytona Beach event taking down a hefty 6-figure prize in 2011, and even at this year’s
WSOP, he’s already scored two cash finishes: one in Event #11 and one in Event #38. In Event #38 (the $2.5k
NL Holdem 4-handed event) he finished runner-up, taking home $191.4k, the biggest single tournament haul of his career.
Greg Merson, the reigning WSOP Main Event champion put in quite a day 2 run. He started with 81.6k chips and he finished up with 275.6k, positioning himself among the front-runners. The other feel-good story of the day was Doyle Brunson’s, who started off ~81k chips as well and finished with 224k, still very much a contender.
Other players who successfully weathered the Day 2A/B storm were Rupert Elder, Jason DeWitt, Ludovic Lacay, Kenny Tran, Annette Obrestad, Cliff Josephy and Ronnie Bardah. Chris Moneymaker was eliminated by Ivan Mamuzic, whose pocket rockets got the better of the champ’s A,Jo.
Jonathan Karamalikis and Matt Salsberg were bounced as well.
