2013 WSOP Main Event – Day 2C in the Books

A couple of hours ago, the second day 2 flight of the
2013 WSOP Main Event – officially known as Day 2C – went into the books. Mark Kroon has thus far had a rather dominating Main Event: he finished Day 1C with the largest stack and as such, he ended up the overall chip leader after all the day 1 flights. On Day 2C, he apparently continued just where he’d left off: dominating and amassing chips. He finished Day 2C on top again, having had 507.3k chips bagged at the end of the day.
Needless to say, to get to where he finished the day, Kroon had to play well all day long. During level 6, he picked up a massive pot from two other players after making trip 6s and getting one of the other guys to tag along all the way.
The second day 2 flight saw quite a number of “name” pros return to the tables.
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu was among them, together with Michael Mizrachi, Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, and others.
Negreanu met the end of his poker tournament life during the 7th level. He had an A,Ko against an opponent’s pocket 10s and ended up losing the classic coin-flip. His fellow PokerStars pro, Jason Mercier, followed him to the rail after his A,Ko lost out to an opponent’s pocket rockets.
Jamie Gold was among the victims as well. His elimination came at the end of a true perfect hand situation: the 2006 Main Event champion, the beneficiary of the largest ever cash prize awarded by the Main Event, turned a Broadway straight. His opponent, Gregory Liang however, had turned a boat and thus Gold’s 2013 Main Event run came to an abrupt and rather bitter-tasting end.
Joe Hachem was bounced too, together with Gerard Pique and Roberto Luongo.
