2013 WSOP – Michael Moore Wins Event #37

Event #37, the $5k Limit Holdem one of the 2013 WSOP, played down to its winner too today: the player who grabbed the gold after 3 exhausting days of poker and after putting no fewer than 169 opponent in his rearview mirrors, was Michael Moore, who ended up with a $211.7k reward on top of his prized WSOP jewelry. Although the large buy-in meant a relatively small starting field, it also meant that scores of high profile pros would take part in this one. Even the final table was a rather pro heavy one: Greg Mueller made it to the final stage of the event, together with Justin Bonomo and Ronnie Bardah, so Moore’s accomplishment was a rather impressive one indeed in light of these facts.
Moore, one of the seniors of the Series, was by no means a new face at the tables. In fact, he had been chasing a WSOP bracelet since at least 1995, when he had a close call finishing 5th in the Main Event, taking home a $27.6k prize.

Jeffrey Yass was the player who started the day with the shortest stack and sure enough, he became the first one to bite the dust. He clawed and kicked his way to a couple of double-ups during the early action, but eventually he was forced to admit defeat at the hands of Justin Bonomo.
With the ice broken, the field whittled down to the official final table relatively fast. Justin Bonomo was the first victim of the final table, sent to the rail by Greg Mueller. Mueller himself then bit the dust in 7th. Bardah held out longer and his eventual elimination in 3rd place was the one that set up the heads-up stage of the tournament. Moore started the home dash with a significant disadvantage but he fought back and eventually took over.

I played good and I goy lucky. Ronnie had me all-in early at the final table with Ah-4h against A-J. Flop, 2h, 5h, 4c, turn 4d.
