Event #29 of the 2013 WSOP, the $5k HORSE one, went into the books today and its winner is Tom Schneider. Schneider has achieved what most poker players spend a lifetime chasing, twice within about 10 days: he took down the gold bracelet in a
WSOP event. On June 9, he won the $1.5k HORSE event, #15 of the Series, taking down its top prize of $258.9k. This time around, he pocketed more money for yet another HORSE win: his reward was $318.9k. These two bracelets take his total count to 4, so one may say he has entered a rather exclusive club of poker players indeed.
The beginning of the last day of the poker tournament saw him start with a massive chip lead and with only 4 players remaining in the running, that did indeed mean a hefty edge for him. The first player to bite the dust on Day 4 was Viatcheslav Ortynskiy. He was followed to the rail by Greg Mueller and the heads-up stage of the event was set.
Benjamin Scholl was the one staring down Schneider from across the table, himself a WSOP bracelet winner. By the time the heads-up stage of the event was reached though, Schneider had managed to increase his chip lead further. Faced with insurmountable odds, Scholl didn’t really manage to get anything going heads-up. The bout only lasted for a few hands, at the end of which Scholl faded away in a
NL Holdem round. He picked up almost $200k for his efforts though, so his tournament turned out to be a rather lucrative one as well.
Schneider picked up his first two pieces of WSOP bling back in 2007, when he took down the WSOP PoY title as well. It remains to be seen whether he manages to repeat that performance too.
