A Closer Look at PokerStars’ Zoom Poker

A few weeks ago, news of PokerStars’ planned alternative to Rush Poker emerged. The online poker operation which now solely dominates the online poker industry has apparently been busy devising a new form of “poker on crack” that would get Rush Poker lovers back to the tables.
It turns out that Zoom Poker (originally called Blitz) has been available for testing through the PokerStars test client for a while now. Those who have ventured onto the Zoom Poker test tables have all been impressed by the game and they have pretty much all given an extremely positive verdict on PokerStars’ initiative.
Zoom Poker tables only feature play money action currently, but that is more than enough to allow players to assess the capabilities of the software. Besides, word has it that the actual launch of the software into PokerStars’ real money client isn’t more than a fortnight away.

What exactly is Zoom Poker though? PokerStars hail the new game as a new, faster way to play poker and that’s indeed what it is. Those who have given Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker a go before the site went under last spring are probably already familiar with the style. Zoom Poker is indeed a lot like Rush Poker, with a few cherries on top of the cake here and there. Players who fold their Zoom Poker hands are simply removed from the table and whisked onto another one, where other players eagerly await them to be dealt into a brand new hand. Those who don’t like the hand they’re dealt are free to fold straight away, without actually waiting for the action to come around to them. Like Rush Poker before it, Zoom Poker will be revolutionary in terms of hourly rates and hands played per hour. Grinders will most likely welcome it with open arms and the game may come with mobile support too (there’s no actual word on that though), which would indeed fit it like a glove.
