A Closer Look at the EPT Berlin Side Events – Marcel Luske Wins Two

On Saturday, the EPT’s Season 9 Berlin stop came to an end with Griffin Benger’s win in the High Roller and Daniel Pidun’s in the Main Event. We have given you a decent coverage of the more important tournaments, but we haven’t really taken a closer look at the various side-events, which were at least as popular as the above mentioned High Roller and Main Event. Several of the “name” players who went to Berlin for the EPT, found success in these side events. Micah Rashkin and Rupert Elder were just two of the winners. Jason Wheeler, Joe Kuethner and Jeff Rossiter were among the winners as well, but no one enjoyed more success than PokerStars’ own Marcel Luske, who won no fewer than 2 side events.
His first win came in event #21, the €1.1k PLO one. He struck a heads-up deal with eventual runner-up Carsten Joh, a deal which left him with a €32k prize. Joh picked up €28k for his efforts. Luske’s second win came in event #33, the €1.1k 7-Card Stud Deep Stacked event, in which he took down a €7.1k prize, besting only 20 other entrants.

Rupert Elder made no deals in event #7, the $1.1k NL Holdem Turbo one. He took no prisoners on his way to the top either, claiming the €49.8k prize in its entirety. He bested Max Heinzelmann for the win. The runner-up’s share of the prize-pool was €28.7k.
Jason Wheeler’s moment of glory came in event #19, the €2.1k NL Holdem Turbo one. He made a heads-up deal with eventual runner-up Patrick Renkers, which left him with €69.5k. Renkers was rewarded with €61.3k. Pieter de Korver won event #1, and Joe Kuether ended up with the top prize in event #29, the €1.1k NL Holdem “Win the Button” one.
