A Second Look at the 2013 WSOP November Nine – Part 2

As JC Tran pointed out in his post-Day 7 interview, with the exception of a couple of short-stacks (those would be Mark Newhouse, who has 7.35k chips to his name, and David Benefield who will start with 6.37 million) the final table is generally well-stacked. Indeed, players like Jay Farber will start off relatively deep stacks. Farber, a Las Vegas night-life party-organizer, will have 25.97 million chips at his disposal when the action kicks off come November, which does indeed make him a favorite for at least a deep run. Unlike some of the other players, Farber has a pretty relaxed attitude regarding his final table presence. He said that regardless of his eventual result, he would keep focused on living the ultimate poker dream. He also mentioned however that he had befriended some of the biggest names in the poker business and that many of these players had pledged their support to him.

As said above, Mark Newhouse will start the November Nine with one of the shortest stacks. He finished Day 7 of the 2013 WSOP Main Event with 7.35 million chips to his name. Newhouse’s Day 7 was quite an affair indeed: he started out as one of the short-stacks, and by the 3rd level, he was the chip leader. During the later levels however, he began losing hands left and right and it soon became obvious he wouldn’t be able to hold on for long. Eventually, he got bailed out by the dinner-break which gave him a much needed time-out to reassess his goals and his approach. He returned to the tables determined to make the November Nine and in the end he succeeded indeed. As far as his strategy for preparing for the November showdown is concerned, Newhouse said he would simply try to stay away from poker and keep his head clear.
