Just a few days after relieving Tom Dwan of no less than $3 million, Swedish mystery player “Isildur1” made the headlines again, for the largest online poker pot ever played, though this time he drew the sorter straw. The hand occurred in a heads-up match Isildur1 had with Patrick Antonius, Tom Dwan’s durrrr challenge rival, at the $500/$1,000 Omaha tables.
The two players had locked horns over a series of 6 figure pots before the record-breaking monster came about. Antonius had a little over $439,000 and Isildur1 had more than $450,000 so there was plenty of ammo to go around.
The action at
Full Tilt Poker was kicked off by Isildur1, who made a $3,000 raise before the flop. Antonius called it and the flop fell Qs, 7h, 5h. Isildur1 c-bet $5,000 and Antonius check-raised it to $21,000. Isildur made the call and the Ad fell on turn. This card proved to be the catalyst for the action that followed. In the post turn betting round, Antonius firmly took the rains into hand and fired out a $48,000 bet. Isildur1 made it $192,000, effectively pot committing himself in the process. In response, Antonius shoved all-in. Isildur1 pondered about his options for a while, but eventually made the call, creating a pot of $878,958, the largesz one the
online poker industry has ever seen.
The two players showed their cards and they looked pretty evenly matched. Antonius had Ah,Qc,9s,6h, and Isildur1 showed As,Ks,Qd,10h, both of them having secured the same two pair. Antonius had a gutshot straight draw in addition to his already made hand, not to mention a heart flush draw too. Isildur1 had outs to walk away with the pot too, but Lady Luck decided it was the Finn’s turn to roll in the dough some more, and landed an 8d on the river, completing Antonius’ straight and giving him the biggest ever online poker pot.
The previous record for the biggest online PL Omaha pot had been held by a hand played between Tom Dwan and Ilari Sahamies, in which a $702,925 pot went down. The biggest ever pot played online in any game was a $723,938 monster, fought for by Dwan and Di Dang.
