ANZPT Melbourne – Day 2 Report

With so much going on online and with the WSOP’s October Nine showdown just around the corner, it’s not easy to take a focused look at some of the other live
poker tournaments currently underway half a world away.
The ANZPT’s Melbourne Main Event saw 345 players belly up to its tables in its two day 1 flights. Of these, only 141 remained by the start of the second day of action.
As soon as the tournament got rolling on Day 2, it became clear that those still at the tables meant business in the truest sense of the word. They ripped into each other from the opening-bell and soon, heads began to roll.
Daniel Neilson was one of the early victims of the day. He was joined on the rail by Tony Hachem, who started as one of the short-stacks and never managed to get anything going. He trusted his tournament life to some pocket 7s and he got dropped by an opponent who had pocket 8s.
PokerStars’ own Angel Guillen had a similar fate. He too was a short-stack at the beginning of the day, and he too found his demise early. He had pocket 6s in his last hand, against an opponent’s pocket Js.
Past the money bubble, the action gathered momentum yet again. It was during this stage that start of the day chip leader Bill Jordanou got all his chips into the middle. PokerStars’ Bryan Huang made the call and he effectively crippled Jordanou, setting up his elimination, which came a few hands later.
Ashley Warner was the one who finished the day with the largest stack. The majority of his chips came from a pot he won from Hugh Cohen. Huang’s elimination set the official final table.
