ANZPT Perth – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the ANZPT’s Season 5 Perth stop saw 151 players belly up to the tables of the Crown Perth. The end of the day saw local player Jesse McKenzie bag the largest stack of chips, finishing in the lead.
McKenzie got going late in the day, when he got lucky and managed to get good action twice on sets he had picked up. When the day was called, he was sitting behind 162.8k chips. Day 1B set the final number of participants in the event to 219, and the prize-pool to AU$438k. The eventual winner of the
poker tournament will take home an AU$114k prize.
Apparently, most of the “name” competitors elected to swing into action on Day 1B. Didier Guerin, Ashley Warner, as well as last season’s ANZPT Melbourne champion Paul Hockin were all among the competitors. Unfortunately, none of these players managed to survive the day. Others however had great days: PokerStars’ own Angel Guillen finished with a decent stack, and so did James Broom, Melanie Weisner and Tristan Bain.
PokerStars pro Michael Guzzardi survived the day as well, albeit barely: he will return on day 2 behind a short-stack.
Tam Truong was also among the survivors, but he finished with a stack of 119.1k, hardly a short one.
Bryan Huang was in the mix as well, and he managed to sneak into day 2 too, but he too will be struggling on a short-stack come day 2.
Joining him in the lower ranks will be Errolyn Strang and Ben Savage.
At the end of the day, only 70 players had chips bagged. These guys will be joined by the survivors of the previous day 1 flight, taking the total day 2 field to 108.
