ANZPT Perth – Day 2 Report

The second day of the ANZPT’s Perth Main Event saw 108 players return to the tables, looking to secure a seat for Day 3 of the
poker tournament. At the end of the day, only 33 players were left standing, the money bubble still 9 eliminations away. The player who finished the day with the largest stack was James Broom, who amassed 317.3k chips.
Given the relatively abundant “name” pro turn-up, Day 2 saw its fair share of pro eliminations too: Angel Guillen and Bryan Huang were the only two
PokerStars-sponsored players left in the field. Day 2 wasn’t kind to either of them: they both bit the dust. Huang was one of the short-stacks at the beginning of the day, and as such, he was forced to try to get something going early. He pushed his last handful of chips into the middle on a Q,8o before the flop, only to get a call from a player who had A,J.
Guillen’s tournament life was curbed by a coin-flip he lost: he got his last chips in on an A,Q against a player’s pocket 10s. Having been deserted by Lady Luck, he failed to get anything going on the board and he too was sent to the sidelines.
Michael Guzzardi didn’t fare better either. He joined the above said two PokerStars pros, followed by Melanie Weisner and Monica Eastick.
Jesse McKenzie may have held the chip lead at one point in the event, but he was forced to leave empty-handed too on day 2. He started off on the wrong foot and he never managed to get anything going. His last chips went into the middle on a pair of 5s, and he made a set on the flop, but his opponent made a runner-runner straight to score the knockout.
