ANZPT Queensland – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the
PokerStars ANZPT’s Queensland Snowfest Main Event drew a starting field of 49 players. At the end of the day, 31 were still standing. The provisional chip lead went to Ken Demlakian, who managed to build a stack of 70,750 chips to clinch the lead.
All participants started the day on relatively deep stacks thanks to the generous structure of the event. Not everyone could take advantage of the situation though. Jacky Wang for instance was one of those who bit the dust relatively early. Jesse McEnzie and Alex Lynskey hit the rail as well. Tom Grigg – who made it all the way to 6th spot last year – fell by the side during day 1B as well. Grigg just couldn’t really get anything big enough going through the day. He did add to his stack and then lost some chips, but he eventually forced his way all-in with A,Qo against an opponent’s pocket Ks and that proved to be his last mistake for the day. The board didn’t help him in any way and he was done, far off his 2011 ANZPT Queensland performance.
James Honeybone had a much better day though. He survived the day on a decent stack, as did Jonathan Dangio and Ivan Zalac.
Billy Argyros was among the survivors as well: he finished 10th in chips. ‘The Croc’ will be joined on Day 2 by Ben McLean, Ricky Kroesen and Matt Wakeman.
As far as the chip leader is concerned: Demlakian failed to come anywhere near the stack that David Allan, the provisional chip leader of Day 1A had managed to get together. As a matter of fact, his stack won’t even be enough to position him in the top 5 once the action gets going on Day 2: he’ll be 6th overall, provided no one on day 1C will overtake him, which isn’t highly likely.
