ANZPT Queensland – Day 1C Report

The final day 1 flight of the ANZPT’s Queensland Snowfest Main Event drew a starting field of 49 players, thus setting the final number of participants to 149. Day 1C finally revealed the size of the prize-pool, which exceeded NZD$402k and that of the first-place prize, which would hit NZD$110k.
29 players remained after the third day 1 flight, taking the total number of those who successfully advanced to day 2 to 87. Nurlan Boobekov was the one who finished the day with the largest stack. Boobekov managed to accrue 69.2k chips to clinch the lead.
Again, there were plenty of ‘name’ players in the starting field, and again, there were numerous ‘name’ victims. Among those who bit the dust relatively early were Keith Walker, Lee Nelson and Matty Yates. One of the best known Australian poker players, Nelson fought an uphill battle through the day. Eventually, he shoved all-in and ran straight into an opponent’s pocket rockets. He didn’t show his hand, he only flicked over a K upon leaving the table.
John Apostolidis and Jan Suchanek didn’t fare much better either: none of them will be back for day 2.
Wherever there are losers, there have to be winners too: Aaron Benton was one of those who took the day 1C hurdle in stride. Other players joining him on Day 2 are Kristian Lunardi and Jarred Graham. A perpetual Aussie favorite and APPT Melbourne Main event winner Leo Boxell is also among the survivors.
Team
PokerStars Pro enjoyed a pretty decent presence at the tables. From among the ranks of the PokerStars pros, Bryan Huang and Roy Bhasin managed to move on to day two, to carry the PokerStars banner deep into the event.
Huang actually did pretty well, finishing the day in 8th place overall, behind a stack of 39.9k chips.
Representing Singapore, Huang is one of only two non-Australians in the top 10. The other is Yvo Molin of Thailand.
