ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest – Day 2 Report

The second day of the ANZPT’s Queenstown Snowfest Main Event saw the field play down to the final 23. The one who finished with the largest stack – quite a genuine monster in fact – was Jonathan Bredin, who had 212.4k chips bagged. The start of the day saw a large number of high profile players still at the tables. Tom Grigg, Matt Wakerman, Jeff Rossiter and Oliver Gill were all playing, unfortunately, each and every one of these players bit the dust during the day. Tom Grigg didn’t fare particularly well in his first outing as a red

PokerStars’ Bryan Huang was among the starters as well and he too was eliminated on Day 2. He was the one who had the largest stack at the beginning of the day, but after a few unfortunate turns of fate, he found himself one of the short-stacks. The inevitable soon happened and he found himself on the rail, joined in short order by Dave Allan, the reigning champion of the event.
Bredin chipped up massively relatively late in the day when he took a huge pot off David Yan, thus pretty much curbing the latter’s tournament hopes. Suffering from cerebral palsy, Bredin became the hero of the day in more ways than one. Being able to use only one arm in a limited way and quite unable to vocally communicate, he used a special iPad and a carer to navigate his way to the top behind a truly monstrous stack.
Unlike some of the name competitors mentioned above, Geoff Smith, last year’s winner of the ANZPT’s Auckland Main Event, made it to Day 3 behind a pretty handsome stack no less. Daniel Laidlaw, one of the previous chip leaders, and Daniel Neilson also advanced.
