APPT Auckland, Day 3 – final table set

The third day of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s Auckland Main Event saw 32 Day 2 survivors return to the green felt, all hoping to reach the final table and to possibly amass a big enough stacks to make them favorites for the win. Some guys succeeded in this, most of them obviously didn’t…
At the start of the day, there were no fewer than seven players nursing stacks around 10 BBs big. This meant the early going would be a break-neck paced one and that proved to be the case indeed. In the first blinds level alone, 13 players bit the dust, which was much better than the most optimistic railbirds would’ve expected.

Daniel Craker was among those 13 guys. His title defense thus curbed, the New Zealander still took home NZD 5,523 and the knowledge that he mounted a sturdy attempt nonetheless.
One of the stories of the previous day was that of Eric and Assadour Assadourian. The father and son duo made the money together, and they both looked poised to reach the final table together too.
It just wasn’t meant to be though. Team PokerStars pro Eric Assadourian busted out on Day 3, but the older Assadourian did make it to the final table eventually.

The final table bubble boy was Shilton Smith. He was eliminated following a particularly nasty bad beat against Richard Lancaster. The money went all-in following a preflop raise by Smith and an all-in move by Lancaster. Smith tabled K,K and appeared to be in a pretty good shape against Lancaster’s Ad,Jd. The flop fell 9d,8d,4s and Lancaster had a menacing-looking 4-card flush. He filled it up on the river to cripple Smith.
Left with only about 52,000 chips, Smith shoved all-in a few hands later and got bounced to fall just short of the final table.
Jason Brown, who started the day in the chip lead, finished with 709,000 chips. The final table chip leader is Gerome Guitteau, who had amassed a massive 1,204,000 chips.
Lance Climo, Day 1B’s chip leader also made the final table, on a 305,000 stack. The other participants are Simon Watt, Michael Shinzaki, Jens Walter, Assadour Assadourian and Ke Sijia. Four New Zealanders form the majority at the final table, joined by an Aussie, a German, a Frenchman, an American and a Chinese national. The APPT final table has 4 players who won their seats online at PokerStars.
