APPT Cebu – Day 1B Report

76 players showed up for the second day 1 flight of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event, rounding up the total starting field to 128. When the action was called, 42 players were still alive. Antonio Martins was the one who managed to clinch the chip lead. Martins amassed a stack of 119k chips, surpassing the previous flight’s leader, Han Ruo Goh, who had only collected 84.3k.
The lead swung Martins’ way after he picked up a huge pot in a perfect hand which saw him call an opponent’s 5-bet all-in with pocket rockets. The opponent had Ad, Kd, and an A on the flop gave Martins the lead in the hand, eventually the win too, and the chip lead for the first time on Day 1B. Martins was the only player thus far in the event who managed to shoot past the 100k chip mark. There’s another day 1 flight to go though, and given that people usually love to procrastinate as much as possible when it comes to registration, it may yield by far the biggest starting field yet, which may possibly mean the chip leader to rise from that day will have amassed even more chips than Martins.

Another player got extremely close to breaking the mark too: Julian Hasse finished with 97.6k chips to lock up second place. The rest of the top finishers had much more modest stacks to bag at the end of the day though. Bobo Chen finished third with 67.9k, followed by Daniel Ortmann in 4th with 66.5k.
Several ‘name’ pros advanced on shorter stacks, among them Antoine Amourette and Charles Lam.
Celina Lin and Vivian Im represented Team PokerStars Pro. They both managed to make it to day 2, but they both did so on very short stacks: Im had only 9.6k chips left when the action was stopped. Darren Judges wasn’t even as lucky though: he was bounced, together with Cathy Hong and Ari Engel.
